Happy Funky Friday – Year 5

Year 5 Curriculum

In our English lessons we have been looking at using devices such as similes, metaphors and personification to create poems about being a street child during the Victorian times. These have then been used to create a poetry display in our classroom. During our maths lessons we have been learning about fractions. We have looked…

Welcome to Year 5!

An enormous welcome to Brougham Class!

Mrs Pattinson and Mrs Dutson are delighted to be teaching in Upper Key Stage 2 this year and cannot wait to tackle all the exciting learning with you. Throughout the week, we are fortunate to have the fantastic support of Mrs Kingswood, Mrs Rose and Mrs Hodgson to help us with 1:1 reading, reading comprehension and spelling. Additionally, Mrs Floyd shares her P.E expertise, for an hour, on a Thursday morning.

If you require any further information, have any questions or need us at all then please be in touch via dojo, email or phone. We are always happy to help.

Autumn Term

Our class books this term will be ‘The Midnight Fox’ by Betsy Byars and ‘Macbeth’ by William Shakespeare.

We will be launching our topic Tudor Monarchs and we will be linking all of our History, Geography, Art and DT skills through this. We hope to hold a celebration day to share this with you all.

In Science, we will be investigating the properties of materials and their uses and exploring Earth and Space – we wonder if there are any budding astronauts in our midst?

Dates for the diary

The children will need P.E. kits in school on Monday and Thursday. Their kit can be kept on their peg in a bag and taken home at the end of each half term. We will be both inside and outside this term so please ensure that your child has suitable clothing, especially as the weather becomes chillier.

In Year 5, a weekly spelling test will be completed on a Friday morning. New spellings, for the following week, will be sent via Dojo the same day.

Throughout the year, there will be various visits and visitors into our school. We cannot wait to share these moments with you, so watch this space!
